Halloween party ideas 2015

Multiplayer fantasy shooter BattleSouls opened its doors last week for everyone to join in the open beta stage of development. The game, which pits a colorful cast of fantasy characters against each other on their quest for map dominance, is entirely free to play and financed with cosmetic microtransactions. There are portraits, pets, and kill effects available in the in-game store.

BattleSouls' unique selling point is the ability to switch characters on the fly during the game. Going from a ranged wizard to a melee-focused knight to a healer within seconds certainly has its tactical advantages. With five classes to choose from, this might make for some interesting gameplay, even if the ranged heroes currently feel slightly more powerful than melee fighters. While it certainly cannot compete with similar AAA productions, it's more than impressive what a small Danish team has created in the 18 months since the game's inception.

The lack of game modes and varied maps might hurt the game in the long run, but for now it is a nice diversion if you crave some first-person multiplayer brawling. Besides, more maps and heroes are already in the works. As it stands right now, there are usually a couple of games going on at any given time, and you can always join an ongoing match.

BattleSouls is free to play on Steam. For more information on the game and developer Pixeleap, you can head to the game's site or follow them on Twitter.
