A scientist has up and made a ton of monsters AND a fog that is steadily consuming the world, yet somehow doesn't seem to see any problems with this. That's where our long-haired, poorly-equipped hero comes in, one who players will guide while exploring the countryside and the scientist's hideout and arm with the items they find along the way in Mortal Manor.

Mortal Manor gives players a great deal of areas to comb through as they work to stop the scientist's cranky creations. These monsters, all somewhat silly-looking but still quite hostile, can be taken out with an array of different weapons players can collect, or they can be avoided outright using the handful of relics that increase the player's mobility. Double jumps, slides, and a grappling hook are just some of the ways players will be able to move around, letting them quickly bypass these irritable experiments.

Mortal Manor aims to be a challenging experience filled with secrets, offering players many neat gadgets to play with as they work to apply some rules and regulations on a scientist who clearly needs some boundaries set for him.

With a wide, open world to discover, WeakWood Throne offers many things for an aspiring wizard, knight, or archer to get up to. Players will be able to choose from a few different classes (or try to be a jack of all trades) while taking on the various enemies of the world, as well as delving into the story behind a troubled king and his citizens.

Players will be put on the quest of finding out why WickWood Kingdom is in misfortune. The economy is terrible and danger roams the streets. To top it all off, there is something off about the King and your goal is to dethrone him. You'll have to get strong first, though, and there's a few different approaches you could take.

You'll have the option of three classic classes: Swordsman, Archer, or Mage. You do have the option to play all three at once, if you're confident enough though! With these classes, you'll be able to roam the open world with a little less worry. Take up your choice of weapon and earn some gold by questing for the locals, raiding soldiers' caravans or exploring the forests for lost treasures. You'll have more than enough to do and a lot to see, especially with its bright color scheme and art style!

The end is nigh! The cataclysm is almost upon the world, and only you can save us! But you have to venture out into the wilds, become a hero, and help the people. Maybe you can prepare for the end of all things, after all...

Artifact Adventure Gaiden, sequel of Artifact Adventure (which we wrote about here) lets you explore its open world and do some good while completing quests and beating up all kinds of monsters in side-scrolling, slightly chaotic battles.

In these fast-paced bouts, you basically cause damage by running into your foes with your equipped weapon while dodging their charges or projectiles. This all feels like a somewhat messy but fun reference to The Legend of Zelda II. (Speaking of references: the game looks like a long lost Gameboy title.)

Even though you're on your own on the battlefield, you can actually take a bunch of followers with you. These bestow some passive advantages upon you and come with their unique quest lines. Completing those quests is optional, but you might be rewarded with some of the game's wonderous artifacts which greatly help you on your travels - and you'll need all the help you can get for the coming Cataclysm.

Once you have explored the world enough, you can return to the castle to await the end of the world. The game then skips three years and you can either start the final battle or once again journey out into the world to see what differences your actions have made.

You see, everything you did actually has consequences, and the world you're about to go and save has been shaped by you. It's a clever little trick to actually make you care about these generic fantasy lands - and it works.

Medieval dodgeball is a pair of words I didn't know I needed to come together until now. Strikers Edge puts together a fast-paced challenge of dodging attacks from opponents and whipping back your own in a single player campaign or against your friends and the masses in local or online multiplayer.

Take control of one of eight possible characters and start firing off unique abilities at your opponents, trying not to get hit until someone drops from a failure to dodge. As you progress through the game, you'll find various arenas that each have their own obstacles to keep you from getting too comfortable with a certain strategy as well, making for more dangers than just simple dodging.

In the single player mode, players can explore the intricate backstories of these characters while finding their favorite playstyle, then take on the multiplayer side of the game with strategies learned in the campaign. Players can enjoy either 1v1 or 2v2 sessions to test their skills against others in an online or offline environment! So, challenge your friend or drag them into your fight against others in the ruthless weapon-filled dodgeball arena.

Shotgun Legend is an homage to The Legend of Zelda, to be sure, but one that brings portals, aliens, truck rims, shotguns, and co-op pals into the dungeon-delving, world-exploring formula.

Eugene finds two things one day: a portal and a truck rim. The portal takes him to a world filled with aliens who mean to take him out, but instead of handling these enemies with a sword, his handy shotgun will do. Using this, he'll blast his way through an open world filled with deep dungeons that hide useful alien technology. Using his guns and these alien gadgets, he hopes to find the missing truck rim and make his way home.

Shotgun Legend offers ten dungeons to explore, the potential to dual-wield shotguns without breaking your arms, very little in the way of direction, and a co-op mode where players share a health bar. It's a neat, lighthearted take on the Zelda style.

The Night Ripper follows Rachel, a young woman who is just trying to get home after her shift. The police have cordoned off a part of the street, though, blocking her regular route. This sends her down dark, PS1-style alleys and streets where she'll meet a few people, find some useful items, and likely stumble across the masked killer everyone is looking for. Should she find this unsettling figure, it will be time to rush through the tight corridors of the claustrophobic, shadowy areas around her, using whatever weapons she can find while (literally) fighting panic.

The Night Ripper, like many of developer Puppet Combo's other horror outings, creates a powerful discomfort with its visual style, setting the player on edge while taking them into a world of 80's horror/slasher films. It's all well worth looking into for fans of the genre, and this one in particular might make your own walks home at night seem just a little bit more unsettling.
