You can't have a decent cop movie without a Kowalski and, apparently, you can't have a great cop game without one either. Happily, though still in early access, LA Cops (Windows, Mac) is shaping up to be a cop game of this sort and one that comes complete with its fair share of Kowalskis. Also with its Murphy, Green, Williams and Borland.
Those aren't some randomly chosen names either, as each and every one is attached to a particular character you'll be leading on a criminal murdering rampage. A rather criminal rampage in itself admittedly, as this is a '70s action thriller that's rich in gore and baddies to brutally murder. You won't be making any arrest here; only lots and lots of lethal shootings.
LA Cops is an insanely fun and frantic action offering that plays a bit like Hotline Miami only with isometric graphics, a more thoughtful pace, a subtle sense of humour and RPG elements. Speaking of graphics, the game has a unique, '70s, psychedelic-cartoon style I simply love and works well both in cutscenes and in-game.
LA Cops is currently available as an early access offering on Steam and comes with five stages.
