Halloween party ideas 2015

DexterIntro01.png It's always pretty interesting when you get to play a game inspired by other completely unrelated medias. Dexter Morning Routine by Anas Abdin, for instance, is a tribute to the very famous TV show Dexter. Whether you've seen it or not, it's likely that you know at least what it's all about, and when I realized that the game hadn't anything to do with murders, or crimes of any sort, it became even more appealing.

It's a short point & click adventure where, playing as Dexter himself, you'll have to recreate the intro that gets played right before every episode. It is indeed about him waking up and doing everything any normal person would do, but here, all the actions available have to be performed in a very specific sequence. Every time you do things right, you get rewarded with anywhere between 10 to 50 points (based on how obvious the task is), and at the same time, messing up a chain of events will decrease your score. The perfect run nets you 330 points, of that I'm sure, but even for a fan of the series like I used to consider myself, the game can't really be completed with extreme ease.

DexterIntro02.png On top of avoiding any accidental misclick, there's also another boundary that you need to be wary of: the music. You're mimicking the intro, so it's also reasonable that you get everything done before the very nice piano impression of the soundtrack ends. Meaning that you have a little less than two minutes to get up, shave, prepare and eat a very refined breakfast, dress up, and head out.

There are also three difficulties labeled by knives of different sizes in the main menu (yet another Dexter reference). The easiest feels like it's the only humanly possible one, though if you're looking for a way of training your memory and reflexes, you can definitely try the other two. They're somewhat faster, and the elements that you need to interact with are shuffled with one another or slightly hidden by the static furniture.

The gameplay footage above shows how to deal with the first difficulty. Without watching it, I feel like completing Dexter Morning Routine flawlessly would take more than a couple of attempts. It's hard, and not every item is as responsive as it should be, but despite the few insignificant issues I ran into, I found the game to be fun and outrageously original nonetheless.
