All the Classics in One Game: PACAPONG - [INDIEGAMING]

Finding a friend or two up to play a local multiplayer game isn't so easy nowadays, it's outdated and requires people to actually face the outer world at some point. However, if you've got literally anyone in your household that can handle a keyboard, please, ask them to join you in a PACAPONG match. Dick Poelen made this for the Pong-themed MiniLD #58 jam in about 9 days, and even though the time was limited, the game feels complete and not rushed at all.

Among the more or less functional clones of the classic arcade game, PACAPONG really stood out. In fact, this is not just Pong, it's an entertaining ode to the lost arcade era that can be enjoyed through very handy one-minute battles. With WASD one of the two players gains control of the orange bar on the left, whereas the arrow keys are used to move the red bar situated in the right side of the screen. The field, instead of being completely blank, is structured as a Pacman grid, and the ball that is supposed to bounce between the two players, is none other than Pacman himself. As you shoot him, you can also control his trajectory in order to grab as many candies as possible. However, the most important element that you're supposed eat are the space invaders tokens that appear in random places.

If you get them, falling malicious starships will appear on the enemy's side adding one more thing to take care of, but thankfully, moving horizontally is a thing you can do here. Other than that, the rules regarding Pacman's ghosts are still the same, and letting him collide with them will put you behind in the interesting score system shown on top of the screen. Getting hit by the ships and conceding a goal have also the same effect, which roughly consists in losing a good chunk of points as well as giving some to your opponent.

Towards the end of every match another old game's character makes its appearance. It's Donkey Kong, and disregarding of who's ahead, and who's behind, he'll throw barrels all over the place that must be dodged at all costs. They're deadly score-wise.
