I wonder what the startup costs are for becoming a villain in a horror game. I mean, sure, abandoned asylums probably make for cheap starting hideouts, but mannequin prices are where you run into your problems. Even used, those things are at least $100-150 a piece, so I can't even imagine how your average dangerous killer could even begin to afford the amount they needed to really make their hideout truly creepy. The antagonist of Psychoz Interactive's Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities (available now for your iOS devices) must be the Bruce Wayne of horror villains to be able to afford to outfit her hideout with all of these spooky mannequins. Don't even get me started on the labor costs of setting them up, either.
You play as Rose in Forgotten Memories, and you're searching for a missing child. This investigation has taken her to an unnamed, naturally abandoned asylum, and she'll have to delve further and further into the mannequin-filled world of horror that the villain has set up for her to bring the child home. Her travels through this place will bring her through some terrible memories, forcing her to live through them as she fights back against the beings and visions she sees there. Focusing on unnerving storyline over combat (although there are strange beings you have to fight against), Forgotten Memories hopes to have players jumping at shadows and fears both real and imagined as it tells its twisted story.
The game's inspirations, 90's era horror games from PS1 and PS2, become extremely clear when you see that Guy Cihi and David Schaufele, voices of James Sunderland and Eddie Dombrowski from Silent Hill 2, have been brought in to do some voice work on the project. If a little monster bashing, some solid voice acting, and a lot of atmospheric creepiness sounds like it's up your alley but you don't have an iOS device, you're still in luck. The game is projected to hit Android, PS Vita, Steam, and the Wii U sometime this year, so we can all bask in the unsettling atmosphere on Forgotten Memories soon. As for all you iOS users who can play it right now: I kind of hate you a bit. There, I said it.
Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities is available for $4.99 on the iTunes Store. For more information on the game and Psychoz Interactive, you can head to the game's site or follow the developers on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
