"My apartment reeks of thoughts" The Elsewhere Company's a•part•ment says in its trailer, and when you've just lost someone you care about, either through death or a break-up, it's true. Everywhere you look triggers some new, unwelcome memory, as if everything you own - every surface of everything that fills your living space - is polluted with unwanted throughts. The things you shared, no matter how simple, carry a weight you don't want to carry, and everything in your life just reminds you of your loss. Eventually, you have to find your way back from that state, and a•part•ment is about that journey.

Nick has just had his girlfriend, Madison, walk out on him, leaving him all alone with his thoughts in the empty apartment they used to share. You're left to walk around it and continue with Nick's life in his apartment complex, but the items and places inside all carry his painful memories of her. Looking at objects will bring up pieces of text, delving into Nick's character or talking about his memories. These permeate every surface, creating a constant deluge of thoughts that just will not let up and let him go. He's not the only one in pain here, though, and his neighbors (a widow, a loner, a newlywed, and a lost daughter) are all undergoing their own uncertain thoughts and bad memories as well.

You can help them get through these difficult times by watching their memories and helping them face the thoughts that have overwhelmed their lives and made it impossible to actually live. By playing through small vignettes with gameplay designed around a specific memory, you can explore their pain and help them take back their existence from the constant, forceful thoughts that have taken over. a•part•ment's unusual narrative based gameplay is projected to be complete sometime in 2016, although the developers do have a demo available now for anyone curious about its play style. Can you bring Nick back from a place poisoned by constant, insistent thought to a place of peace? Can you make his apartment become his home again?
