Halloween party ideas 2015

When an alien threat comes to our planet, you used to be able to count on old Lance and Bill to handle it. Them dang Contra boys just got lazy when it came to underwater threats, though, so instead we have to call on the brave crew of the sub from Howling Hamster's Trench to get the job done. They don't bat an eye at diving deep beneath the blue seas to find the meteor that's spawning hostile aliens, taking their loads of depth charges and torpedoes straight to the threat. Well, maybe with the occasional deviation to salvage some stuff along the way. The crew's gotta make a living, and saving the world won't pay the electric bill.

Trench is a shmup with some exploration thrown in, as seen from the map in the corner of the screenshots. It's not as simple as moving left to right and shooting things, as you can find different routes and pick up salvageable loot hidden along the way. With those varied paths come places that are harder or easier to get through as well, and finding out which route is best is just as important as being able to tackle the ugly creatures that dog your ship. That meteor has birthed some nasty creatures for you to fight, and you'll need to carefully maneuver your ship to use your charges and shots to take them out. Luckily, you can buy repairs and upgrades for your ship at trading posts between levels, so if you get roughed up, you can always get fixed.

If you've envisioned yourself as captain beneath the seas, there's a demo available to let you try out your sea legs. The game is still in development with an undetermined release date, so if you want to blast underwater horrors, the demo's the best route for now. Best to get in your practice, as those monsters are only going to get bigger and meaner as the game progresses, and you'll want to be a natural sub pilot by the time you have to tangle with the major threats of Trench.

For more information on Trench and Howling Hamster, you can head to the developer's site or follow them on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google +, Vimeo, IndieDB, and Gamejolt. The game is also looking for votes on Steam Greenlight.
