Bad horror movies can be a comedy goldmine, but I never expected to see someone plumb those depths in search of an idea for a video game. FreakZone Games has, turning the terrible MANOS: The Hands of Fate (which...you just kind of need to watch) into a video game of the same name. Capturing some of the movie's striking moments in pixels, the game puts you in the shoes of Mike as he tries to retrieve his family from the clutches of the Master and his occult powers. His journey won't just take him across caverns and cemeteries, but also through other gems in horrible cinema as he fights to bring his loved ones home.
Now available on Steam, this is the superior version of MANOS. Originally a mobile game from 2012, this game builds upon the original with improved visuals and level designs that better suit it as a PC game. Story vignettes have also been added for those who aren't familiar with MANOS' rich lore and backstory, helping make a tale of shooting snakes and hands in some guy's back yard really come alive for the player. You can even play as Torgo, the loveable, frightening caretaker who hinted that maybe you shouldn't have come here in the first place. Maybe listen next time.
For those who never tried the original, expect the kind of sidescrolling action FreakZone Games excels at as you play through the game. Filled with the kind of goofy enemies you'd typically see in NES horror games, some nods to awful cinema and other games, and some creative challenges in the level design, it promises to provide some fun challenge as you fight back against the Master. If you want to get up to some business that he definitely wouldn't approve of, like shooting his henchmen with a revolver, then you can grab it sometime today and get to work. Your family aren't going to rescue themselves, after all.
MANOS: The Hands of Fate will be available today for $5.99 on Steam. For more information on it and FreakZone Games, you can head to the developer's site, the game's site, or follow them on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
