This is the last of the BitSummit trailer roundups for this year. That fact is a little sad, since there were so many good games at BitSummit, but at least the games contained herein are worth checking out.
Ato no Ato
Windows | $TBA | Release TBA (probably JP only)
I hate escort missions. This game, however, makes escorting a weakling fun. The player character is unstoppable; he can't be killed. Only the girl following him can be, but where most escort missions end in failure when the escortee falls, this girl can be revived so the game carries on. I never expected someone could make me like a game about escorting a helpless NPC, which made this game a very pleasant surprise.
Mame no Hanashi (JP link)
iOS | $TBA | Release TBA (probably JP only)
In this game, the player is a researcher who discovers a new kind of bean, the "hitokoto bean." They are talking beans, and the player's job is to raise and study them.
Thumper
Windows, PS4 | $TBA | Sometime 2016
From developer Drool: "Thumper is a rhythm violence game. It combines classic rhythm-action with breakneck speed and brutal physicality. You control Thumper, a space beetle, while screaming towards confrontation with an insane giant head from the future."
Tottoko Dungeon (JP link, game available in English)
iOS, Android | Free (IAP) | Available now
I played this game a bit at Bitsummit. It's an RPG game of sorts. Before running a dungeon, the player equips any two of the abilities they've unlocked and can use them to help the character get through the dungeon and hopefully find all the treasure. As the game goes on, the dungeons get more complex and finding everything requires multiple runs.
VIDEGOAME: The Search for Player's Love
Windows, Mac, Linux | $TBA | Releases tomorrow
From developer Let's Playing (Rainblocks): "Player's Love is missing and must be found. But Player is in VIDEGOAME and bad things are happening. Who is Player? Who is Player's Love? Search through thirty precision based challenge rooms to discover the answers. And why."
VIDEOBALL
Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, XB1 | $TBA | July 2015
From developer Action Button Entertainment: "VIDEOBALL combines our favorite elements of arcade shooting games, modern first-person shooters, and modern real-time strategy games with the depth of soccer, basketball, hockey, football, and rugby." The release date in their press kit is July 2015, so unless that's been pushed back, the game should be available on Steam very soon.
Word Leader VS (JP link)
iOS | Free(IAP) | Available now (Japanese only)
There is a Japanese word game called shiritori in which players take turns saying words. The first phonetic character in a word must be the same as the last character of the word that was spoken before it. Ending a word with the n character is an automatic out because no words start with it. This iOS game is solitaire shiritori made interesting by restricting the characters available to the player at any given time. It's good Japanese practice and a lot of fun, but if you don't speak Japanese you will unfortunately be unable to enjoy it.
X-Tactics
Windows, Mac, iOS, Android | $TBA | Release TBA
From developer GAMKIN: "X-Tactics ("Cross-Tactics"), is an episodic tactical RPG that blends traditional turn based tactics fighting game combat mechanics for a fresh take on the genre. It is also unique in it's use of GPS and local weather conditions to affect tactics, skills, and also to unlock secret treasures and side quests as you delve into missions of urban exploration to protect your hometown."
