Chris Hardwick and Dan Cordell, formerly of Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, have announced the creation of their own studio, Wickerman Games. Using their individual perspectives through their time working on the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, as well as their combined fifteen years of experience in game development, the two have decided to start Wickerman as an entirely transparent development studio.

They have decided to work on a game with complete community input. Using modern web technology and community building, they want to share their as much spoiler-free work in progress, from design and coding to art and development, all the while accepting feedback through their regular updates.

The studio intends to work on bringing their own experience with dynamic storytelling via pen and paper role playing games to life in the video game medium. By combining these layers mechanically they hope to be able to create truly emergent gameplay, and allow for impactful decisions during their narratives. Also promised is to be as respectful and consumer friendly as their prior employer. CD Projekt Red was well-known for providing free post-release support for their games as well as having DRM free releases whenever possible, and this practice is one the new studio intends on carrying over.

The Wickerman Games site currently lists several blogs with introductory posts explaining their intended purpose. Art, coding, design, and a monthly summary section are set up and should be integral into the process of making their development as transparent as possible. Regular updates of these blogs should begin in October, and include looks at all aspects of development and design. As well, they should be delving into the tools they use to develop their first project, which they say will be created using Unity. For example, they plan to showcase a WebGL model viewer called "Mimis" on October 9th.
