While it might not be much, here's what we know about Night Call, an upcoming "narrative Noire game" by French developers Monkey Moon and BlackMuffin Studio: you play as a Parisian taxi driver turned private investigator. There has been a string of murders in the French capital, and you were the last person to see one of the victims alive. Conducting your investigation by talking to your customers, you traverse a real map of the city and try to solve this case on your own. If that sounds interesting, you might want to watch the gloriously atmospheric teaser.
I've talked to Monkey Moon's Laurent Victorino, and while he's hesitant to reveal too much about the game this early in development, he can confirm that it won't be just dialogue-based. Picking your passengers wisely and managing your everyday life also play an important part. Some passengers might also come with specific gameplay.
While the game's title may reference Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, the developers are actually more influenced by movies like Taxi Driver or Collateral, as well as games such as Papers, Please, The Wolf Among Us, and LA Noire. The biggest inspiration, however, is Paris itself. Victorino claims that even though foreigners and tourists have this image of Paris as the city of light and love, it's not completely accurate. If Night Call succeeds in showing that other side of the French capital, it will be a fascinating trip indeed.
There is no estimated release date yet, but you can keep track of the development progress by visiting its website and following developers Monkey Moon on Twitter.
