Dark Data aims to bring players back to nights spent playing Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, blasting your blocky local buddies with an array of guns and explosives.
When the second dot com bubble burst, companies scrambled to sell data to recoup their losses. This data, which mainly consisted of data on customers, created a huge market in blackmail, turning the world on its head as everyone turned on each other in a bid to cover up nasty secrets. But maybe you can turn this whole world around, find out the truth about some cruel events, and shoot a few folks while doing it.
Seventeen weapons and ten maps will keep you and three friends occupied for some time as you rush through tight hallways to shoot one another. A bunch of characters will let you customize your shooting experience (and each has a bunch of costumes and accessories), although hopefully there are no super-short characters. Wouldn’t want to start any real-world fights over character choices like a certain game did, right?
Dark Data, with its blocky art style and fast-paced local multiplayer shooting, does a great job of capturing what it was like to have a few friends gathered around a thirteen inch TV trying to play N64 shooters together. You can even bring in a ton of bots (up to seven) to practice with if you’d rather not have all of your buddies clustered up that close to you any more. I may have fond memories of those days, but my eyes and body cannot handle huddling around a tiny TV any more. So thank goodness for this new experience.
Dark Data is available now on Steam.
