Having accepted my iPad's role as the ultimate, portable choose-your-own-adventure machine, I can't help but eagerly await for the next excellently written text adventure to appear on its shiny screen. Thankfully inkle always seems to deliver. Following its innovative and brilliant 80 Days, they just released the slightly more traditional and equally brilliant Down Among the Dead Men.
Unsurprisingly, it's great.
Penned by Dave Morris, this is an expertly written and properly riveting tale of pirates, broadsides, terrifying ships and mysterious islands. A tale you will experience via hundreds of choices and one you can play through as an interesting selection of characters including a lady magician disguised as a pirate and a governor turned buccaneer.
Supported by an aesthetically pleasing and beautifully simple interface, Down Among the Dead Men is elegantly intuitive. Nothing will get between you and building your very own ship and exploring the high seas in a pretty desperate attempt to foil the plans of the devilishly evil pirate Skarvench.
Down Among the Dead Men is available for both iPhone and iPad.
