Legena: Union Tides, an old-school inspired RPG with modern touches, missed the mark on its first Kickstarter attempt by a wide margin. Developer Grandpa Pixel hasn't given up however, and has started a second Kickstarter project for the game which has a modest goal of £1,000 (approx. $1,600 USD).
Legena: Union Tides is to be the first in a series of three RPGs which revolves around mature and diverse themes. It takes place in a setting in which a mysterious figure known only as The Narrator occasionally steps out of legend to cause trouble in the world. He's back again now for the first time since the young king and his companions killed the old king to prevent him from committing evil acts.
The battle system is to be turn based, with customizable spell sets and weather that affects combat. A difficulty grid will allow players to customize specific aspects of the game, such as enemy difficulty, rewards gained, and magic point costs, making it so that players can make the game as difficult or as easy as they wish.
Grandpa Pixel has raised £618 of its £1000 goal at time of this writing with 26 days to go. If the base goal is met, the game will be available for Windows, but many of the stretch goals are aimed at getting it on more platforms including Linux, Mac, mobile devices, and consoles. Backers can pledge to receive a copy of Legena: Union Tides for as little as £5 (approx. $8 USD) or copies of all three games in the trilogy as they come out for £15 (limited quantity) or £40+. A Windows 7/8 demo is also available.
