Today, Anna Anthropy released the original, uncensored version of Lesbian Spider-Queens of Mars, a Wizard of Wor inspired arcade game where you guide a half-arachnid space dominatrix through her palace, trying to recapture her escaped harem.
We covered this game when it was first released on Adult Swim back in 2011.
The free, browser-based version added bars over the characters' chests, an act of creative censorship given the game's subversive sexual themes.
With permission from Adult Swim, though, Lesbian Spider-Queens of Mars can now be experienced in its intended shameless glory.
In the game, you traverse a series of mazes, trying to position the fleeing (or attacking) slave girls into the path of your crystal sceptre's bondage laser.
Think hypersexual Dig Dug, or Pac-Man with S&M.
My favorite part of this game, as with most games by Anna Anthropy, is the way it plays with the retro arcade look and feel, reinterpreting its systems in sometimes sinister, sometimes playful ways. In the case of Lesbian Spider-Queens of Mars, it does both.
Mariel Kinuko Cartwright, the lead animator on Skullgirls, did art for the game's title screens, and Gyossait developer Amon26 did the music.
You can purchase the game for $5 on itch.io, for both PC and Mac.
I would also recommend another recent Anna Anthropy release, Forged of Steel and Wife to Fire, a two-player dueling game available on Gumroad for just $2.
