Halloween party ideas 2015

strike_680.gifToday's trailer roundup features sheep getting sliced in half by lasers, commentary on British politics, a co-op metroidvania, and more. This is probably the best variety of games I've had in a trailer round up in a good long time.

Between The City and The Needle
Windows | $TBA | Release TBA

From the developer: "The world you live in... a large number of its population are not human, but an unknown species mimicking human form. Your job will bring you face to face with suspected imposters. Posing as a psychologist, you must question their identities and ultimately use your intuition to decide what becomes of each one. Will you deem them a convincing member of the human race or a pretender living behind a facade?"

Divide By Sheep
"Steam", iOS, Android | $TBA | Summer 2015

From the developer: "Divide By Sheep is a math puzzler about friendship and slicing sheep in half with lasers." Too bad they aren't specifying which operating systems the game will come out on for PCs.

Drifting Lands
Windows | $TBA | Release TBA | Free alpha

This shmup is designed to keep the basic idea of a ship scrolling through a hail of bullets but replace the mindless firing with use of skills in a manner inspired by action RPGs, making the skill required more than just a matter of movement and dodging.

Empyrean Rule
Windows, Mac, Linux | $25+ | Early 2016 | Kickstarter | Greenlight

From the developer: "Players assume the role of a General, command massive armies and free roam in a world where individuals and empires scheme for power and dominance. It is a world which never sleeps, as everything is happening in real time, and where decisions and actions of players have a direct effect."

Endica VII: The Dream King
Windows, Mac, Linux | $15 | Available now

This is a co-op metroidvania action RPG for up to 4 players with music by Hiroki Kikuta, who also composed the music for Secret of Mana. Although the game isn't on Steam yet, it has been greenlit.

The Extraordinary Life and Times of Nigel Farage, Gentleman
Windows | Free | Available now

From the developer: "TELTNFG is a satirical and absurdist exploration of the desires and motivations surrounding the United Kingdom Independence Party, their populist leader (of the title), and the role of the media in their rise to notoriety /mainstream acceptance. Or, perhaps, just an amusing romp through the nonsense of British politics."

InterSection
Windows, Mac, Linux | $TBA | Q4 2015

In this puzzle platformer, the player's character exists at the intersection of two perpendicular 2D platformer stages. The goal appears to be to move around the stages until specific objects from the two separate planes exist in the same spot.

Voice of Steel
Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, XB1 | $15+ | June 2016 | Kickstarter

Design your own rock 'em sock 'em robot, including attack motions. From the developer: "The skeleton of the robot has more than 2000 connections; it is simulating rigid structures, joints, tendons and muscles. No ragdolls!" Voice of Steel has already been greenlit.

Wacky Wheels
Windows, Mac | $TBA | Q4 2015 | Greenlight

This is a licensed game based on an MS-DOS game of the same name. The original was apparently made after Mario Kart came out and the resemblance is pretty clear. The trailer shows off a few things that distinguish it from the Nintendo franchise, though, and of course this is for PCs rather than consoles.

The Weaponographist
Windows, Mac | reg. $10 | Available now

The trailer for this game featured in a previous roundup did a good job of showing off the game as a silly rougelite, but this trailer shows off the thing that makes The Weaponographist different from other roguelites: weapons break after a certain amount of use, and the player must pick up new weapons dropped by defeated foes. It's currently on sale for 20% off.
