In gaming, we are often granted the ability to control powerful space marines, courageous medieval heroes, and even command entire armies; however, I've never found myself more compelled with a game than when I am in the shoes of a detective. Games like L.A. Noire, The Wolf Among Us, and the Tex Murphy series mark the times when I have been most immersed in a game world. Blues and Bullets is a brand new episodic series that throws you into the shoes of Elliot Ness, who is forced to take matters into his own hands when children go missing and the police force seems to be turning a blind eye.

Blues and Bullets is a game that I have had my eye on since its initial foray into Steam Greenlight. A detective game in its purest form. Blues and Bullets drew me in with its intriguing premise, unique visual aesthetic, and its compelling mixture of adventure and action-based gameplay.

Most likely, the first thing that you will notice about Blues and Bullets is that the game is almost exclusively presented in a black-and-white format. The developers chose to stick with a classic grayscale color scheme, and decided to use occasional splashes of red to really accentuate certain scenes or events that are taking place on screen. I find this aesthetic to be very compelling, and I think it does a great job adding to the flavor of the game, meaning that it reinforces the grim feeling that the story already instills in the player.

Much of your time in Blues and Bullets will be spent interacting with different characters as you attempt to solve the mystery surrounding the adolescents' disappearances. You'll be able to make various decisions when interacting with characters that will directly effect the events and outcome of the story. Along with speaking to dozens of unique characters, you can also expect to investigate crime scenes in an attempt to search for any clues that can help you uncover the truth behind this case.

When you're spending a lot of time exploring and speaking to witnesses, it's very easy to find the gameplay monotonous and stale after a few hours. The fantastic thing that Blues and Bullets implements to combat these feelings are action-packed shootouts with enemies who are trying to prevent you from uncovering the truth. These shootouts will provide a great change-of-pace for the gameplay, and ensure that you are never spending too much time repeating the same sort of actions over and over again.

Blues and Bullets is planning to release in an episodic format of 5 episodes. You will be able to purchase each episode individually for $4.99 each, or you can buy the entire season for $19.99 on Steam, which will save you a few bucks if you plan on playing the entire series anyway.

Recently, A Crowd of Monsters has announced that the first episode of Blues and Bullets will be releasing onto Steam on July 23rd. There are no details as of yet regarding how long we can expect to wait between episodes, but I'll try to get that information and update the article if I can.
