The inhabitants of Lorgna don’t seem quite right, but you’ll still need to talk with them, paying careful attention to their unsettling conversations if you’re to understand why you’re here.
Doll follows you as you wander this rainy city, talking with all of the people there. Each of them have their own thoughts and stories to tell, and these tales with begin to mesh together as lives come in contact with one another. Each new tidbit could offer you some more information about one to the other people you’ve met, which will in turn unlock new stories from that person. If you can follow the threads well enough, you may find out the meaning of this eerie place.
There is a sense of dread throughout Doll, although it doesn’t come from jump scares or being chased by monsters. Something is just very off about what many of these people are saying, hinting at painful pasts and some grim occurrences. These spooky stories, combined with the endless hum of the rain and perpetual gray gloom all come together to form an experience that frightens, even if you’re not sure what it is you should be scared of. It simply discomforts as you wander through it.
Whether you find the answers you’re looking for or not is up to you, as the game hides its clues in many different places. Still, with this unnerving feeling permeating it, it’s hard not to feel compelled to find the answers hidden in these conversations as you play. Because it feels like the answers are the only thing that can help you shake off that nagging fear that comes with playing Doll.
Doll is available now on itch.io and Steam.
