Evergreen Blues describes itself as a ‘suite of interactive songs.’ To me, this game plays like an interactive adventure game, but instead of speaking, you are singing a song or playing notes.
Evergreen Blues is a game unlike any others that I have ever played. Pressing keys on the left and right side of the screen, you are selecting words that form the song you are singing or notes that add to the beat. At first, it’s mainly words, explaining what is going on and shaping your attitude to the song through your choices. There are two characters, singing to each other, forming a story that you get to be a part of.
These songs are created in real time, which can be done in either a single player or local two player. No matter what you select, the words are seamless and feel like they fit into the song. I didn’t find myself trying to find the word that fit, but instead, following the tone that I wanted to have instead.
Evergreen Blues’ stage changes as the show goes on, offering more backgrounds and bringing a more grand feel to whatever you are creating. I got the chance to play a short demo of the game at the Fun and Serious Festival, finding that is was a unique interactive narrative game that just sounded nice to listen to.
Evergreen Blues is projected to release some time in 2020, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
