Halloween party ideas 2015

Flying through the sky on your own skyboat, Larsen Wolf is just looking to defend the town from the large amount of flying creatures that seem to be invading it.

This isn’t an easy task, as because you’re a known sky sailor, you have a lot to do to manage your ship in Skywolf.

After saving a little chicken, you both embark on a journey through the sky with a lot to keep track of if you want to save your town. There are loads of monsters flying through the air, but you can fly against them, making sure your ship takes care of these invaders.

Skywolf

Once inside your ship, you can start picking different areas within it to control various parts. From turbo-blasting forward to changing your steering or controlling your cannon, you will need to find your way to the correct part of the ship and activate that area. Moving around the ship and learning what all of the parts do is key to Skywolf – especially as you upgrade different areas of your ship with bigger weapons.

As you fly through the sky, bombs, islands, and invaders will appear. Some folks will also try to get onto your ship, which requires you to beat them up, while other attacks just damage it from the outside. Instead of spending time activating new areas, you will need to fix those parts and continue on your journey through the sky.

You’ll meet new characters, find new areas, and hope to make your world a better place. Have I mentioned that you are a half-human, half-flying creature to top it all off? Your chicken also sits at the front of your ship, warning you of any dangers you might be heading right into. I got the chance to play my fill at the Fun and Serious Festival, where I fell in love with the game.

Skywolf is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the developer’s Twitter.

The world might seem dark and dangerous to you right now, but in 30000 years, our world of today is but a quirky world of yesterday, and an expedition is about to stumble upon the legendary lost city of Mutropolis.

Pirita Studio’s Mutropolis puts you in the role of Henry, an archaeologist in the distant future. A future so distant that ‘Made in China’ isn’t a sign of mass-production, but instead a sign of an ancient find. You’re on the cusp of a massive discovery, and your team – the best team out there – reflects that. Gadgets and thingamabobs aside, Henry is more of a traditionalist; he would rather work with a brush and trowel.

As you’ve probably already gathered, Mutropolis is a spelling error – that’s part of the charm of this point and click game. There’s the ruins of a metropolis behind the doors that the team stumble on, but the world that exists behind it is far from reflective of the world that we know. While the developers could have gone for a horror twist, they’ve instead gone for the perverse and strange – the people behind the door have been isolated from society, and have become less familiar than the strangers from the outside world.

I was lucky enough to play through a demo of Mutropolis while I was at AdventureX 2019 late last year. An interesting thing about its puzzles, which I feel needs to be mentioned, is that the majority of the demo’s puzzles are actually solved through conversation rather than traditional point and clicking. That’s not to say that the entire game will be like that, but it was a very memorable way of puzzle-solving and not what I initially expected when I sat down to play it. The earliest scenes establish the crew of archaeologists that you’ll probably be spending the rest of the game working alongside or against. I was compelled, and then, as the doors scraped open and the trailer for the rest of the game started running, it all ended. I’m definitely interested in playing more.

Mutropolis is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its developers on Twitter or add the game to your Steam Wishlist.

The jolly fellow in red has been kidnapped by the Christmas League of Evil, and it’s up to eldritch horrors to stop spreading madness and start spreading cheer.

Cthulhu Saves Christmas follows Cthulhu (naturally), the Snow Maiden, Baba Yaga-chan, and Belsnickel as they work to free Santa from the clutches of some unsavory holiday folks. Normally these holiday-themed things are all about teaching about having a giving spirit or learning the true meaning of family or some overly-preachy message, but this one will have you stomping monstrosities in speedy turn-based battles that really cranked up the pace of what I normally expect from the genre.

Not that the family message went entirely out the window. Cthulhu can build up R’lyehtionship Levels (groan) with the other party members by going out on optional outings with them. These will help you all grow a little closer to one another, creating some truly touching moments between the monstrous Cthulhu and his newfound pals. Which is possibly a far more powerful message of companionship than any other sappy Christmas special I’ve ever endured.

Given the game’s goofy premise, it’s a ridiculous romp through some fun holiday situations that make it a blast to play. That it’s also created by the same folks who made Cthulhu Saves the World, a game that did wonderful things for turn-based RPGs in how they handle pacing in combat, it’s also a zippy, involved title that puts all of the characters’ abilities to vital use. Well worth checking out even if the holidays are all done.

Cthulhu Saves Christmas is available now on Steam and GOG.

The Longest Road on Earth takes the normal, everyday life of someone in a very small town in the middle of nowhere and turns it into a game where you follow a mouse character through her pretty average life.

It is a slow, beautiful pixel art adventure game that shows different points of view in a small town.

Unlike most games that I have played, The Longest Road on Earth doesn’t have any puzzles for you to take on, fantasy people to destroy, or anything to experience apart from a normal life. All of the details are in the small interaction points throughout the game – from sitting on the porch drinking tea to looking in the mirror in the morning. These small interactions zoom into the striking visuals, giving a finer look at the details in the scene.

The Longest Road on Earth

And that’s how the story is told: through all of these little actions and points of view, and through seeing the world through the eyes of this main character (who seems pretty average). The locals in this small town in the middle of nowhere have their own customs and mannerisms that you can learn over time, and these also influence your own actions. Seeing the story through small, tedious, tiny actions throughout the day is an intriguing way to experience a game – and one I have not seen done this well in quite some time.

I got the chance to play some of The Longest Road on Earth at the Fun and Serious Festival, and I really enjoyed the bit of the first chapter that I played. It’s a slow, almost-lazy feeling game, where you just get the chance to relax and experience someone else’s simple life through their own eyes There isn’t anything else to solve – just a world to experience.

The Longest Road on Earth is currently in development, but you can support its creation on Kickstarter

RUNONCE captures the love and friendship that can come from a single meeting, never to be repeated again. Only remembered. It is in the powerful good that can exists in those we have not met.

That sensation of instantly connecting with a stranger is incredible. That friendship within a few words that seems to come so naturally at unexpected times. It is like finding out that you knew someone your whole life, but you had somehow forgotten them. RUNONCE distills this feeling by giving you a loving digital friend to speak with, all with the knowledge that they will be gone forever once you walk away from one another.

RUNONCE is a simulated conversation with a cheerful, supportive creature. Once you shut off the program, though, you cannot speak with this creature ever again. You only have the moments, the saved pictures, and the memories of your chat, and then all is gone. This unexpected meeting encourages you to open up to this being, allowing yourself to be vulnerable because you’ll never see them again, but also because this being is so helpful and supportive in what they share with you.

It’s an unexpected experience to be so open with a program, but its language and hopeful nature coax the words from you. And again, it’s that feeling that you both deeply care for this person you just met, and that you also have nothing to lose as they will be gone from your life soon – a digital phantom burst back into meaningless clutches of 1’s and 0’s. It’s that feeling of deep connection with someone whose soul speaks to your own, and knowing that connection will break due to geography or time or whatever other reason friendships cannot exist beyond a brief moment in time.

Nathalie Lawhead has bottled this sensation, creating a brief moment where we can keenly feel that pain and love all at once. It’s the kind of connection that lets us finally be candid with ourselves about who we are, and all with the help of a kind stranger, be they real or conjured. And then, they are gone, and the heart aches, but we are still better for it.

That this feeling and connection can come as such a surprise shows us that we need to look at the strangers around us with more compassion and hope – that the people around us may understand us better than we could ever imagine. It may come across as a selfish reason to love those around us, but I don’t think it is. I think it tells us that we all could understand one another better if we allowed ourselves that vulnerability and honesty with those we meet. Maybe this is a dangerous line of thinking as well, but I am hopeful that this openness could bring us all the connections we need to face our own demons, as well as work to help us work together to solve our problems going forward.

For this, a message of hope in coming together emotionally and lifting one another up, RUNONCE is our Game of the Year for 2019.

RUNONCE is available for free (although I hope you will consider a donation) on itch.io.

Legal Dungeon has you filing police paperwork, using previously-collected evidence to build a case. And you’d better get those convictions or else your superiors will be coming for you.

Legal Dungeon is an intriguing game, paring down criminal mysteries into an act of reading through paperwork for the facts you need to get a conviction. You have everything you need to complete your case in your file, but you need to look up criminal precedents, laws, and specific aspects of the case in order to put your indictment recommendation together. With this framework, it feels more like you’re working to solve real cases rather than playing a crime video game.

This sense of reality comes naturally, as the system and its stories come from Somi, a developer who has done police work in Korea. With that realism comes a darker side to the game, and arguably its most compelling feature: the ability to do harm in working to get convictions. Your whole goal in Legal Dungeon is to get arrests, and if you’re crafty with your research, you can find dubious reasons to lock people up and get the convictions you need to keep your job.

In doing this, Legal Dungeon is a deeply disturbing look at how the law can be used against the law-abiding, and all in favor of making its enforcers look good to their employers and politicians. It’s a look at how many jobs come with some downright evil elements that many of us wash our hands of, saying it was ‘just part of our jobs.’ It’s a game that asks us to examine the acts we blindly take part in and how they can be harmful and cruel, and that we need to always be examining ourselves and our actions. In a time when we truly need to be looking out for one another and be vigilant in how our actions can hurt those around us, it’s easily one of the most vital game experiences of 2019.

Legal Dungeon is available now on Steam.

Setiap program harus berorientasikan ‘outcome based’. Ketika saya mengemudi KPM, saya selalu mengalu-alukan ‘public private pertnership’ kerana saya tahu, kita tidak dapat melaksanakan reformasi sistem ini berseorangan. Sekolah milik komuniti, universiti milik masyarakat.

This year has been a pretty long year for myself. After looking back, I found myself selecting the games from last year, as these two years seem to have blended themselves into my head.

After a long year with a huge number of personal issues, I tried to think of the games that I played in my free time. There are only a few that come to mind, but I picked out the two I played the most to share as games of the year.

I feel like in 2019, I was looking for something happy. Something that took my mind off of everything else going on. I was playing more mobile games so that they could be played in bed or laying down, as it seems I have spent most of this year off of my desktop PC.

Potion Punch 2

Potion Punch 2 was a surprising favorite of the year. I have not played the sequel, but I have spent a lot of time playing through this second game. It’s a mobile title where you play a character who is making potions (and other food-esque items) for a bunch of mythical creatures. You are able to get epic heroes to work in your shops, too (just don’t tell their keepers that they are not on epic missions to match their own personalities).

In the first shop you own in Potion Punch 2, you are able to mix different-colored potions, soon upgrading them to have two different colors unmixed, adding corks and bows, and generally making more money. You also have a few dragons that heat up fish alongside this. It’s like a little pub but in a mystical world.

Upgrades are easy to purchase if you do well during your daily service. Each day has a different goal; sometimes regarding the money you earn, other times regarding the number of orders you fulfill. Often, they have a thing that causes the game to end; a theft happening or you throwing away an ingredient. You can even throw parties to upgrade your customers or purchase upgrades for your home.

It’s been fun watching my shop and customers grow. I’ve made it to the send shop, which has you dying scrolls and carving rocks. This added a lot of variety to the game and almost seemed like an entirely new area, but with the same basic concepts. At this time, I haven’t used any of the in-app purchases, but I have been taking advantage of reward ads to double my income on particularly good runs.

Sneaky Sasquatch

On the Apple Arcade, I have been playing a lot of Sneaky Sasquatch. I kept telling myself I would write up a review of the game, but I ended up just playing more and more of it. It’s a pretty simple and cute concept; you are a Sasquatch who lives in this massive park. During the day, you are hungry, and want to go out to steal food from various campers. The park ranger, of course, doesn’t want you stealing food, so you will need to be sneaky.

You can sell the food you don’t want to eat to the bear, who gives you coins to spend at the racoon’s shop. These upgrades come in the form of needed items like fishing rods, fishing poles, or human clothing, which can be used in various areas around the park. You can also go beyond the park and take your driving test, explore the highway, and find various bits of buried treasure.

Eventually, you’ll start seeing a mischievous fox hanging about who gives you difficult challenges to take on, mostly to do with annoying other humans or the ranger. If you are successful, he can end up giving you money or map pieces. Map pieces are pretty important as they follow the story of the game; which has something to do with the park being built on or something, I don’t quite remember, as I have been spending my days just being a sneak and getting everything I can from every grill around.

These are the two games I have played most this year. I am looking forward to 2020 in hopes of it being a better year for myself and the people around me. Hopefully I can get back to playing loads and loads of little games.

Potion Punch 2 is available now on Google Play and the App Store. Sneaky Sasquatch is available now on Apple Arcade.
