Side to Side might not look like much to some, but it's a surprisingly fun dodge 'em up that takes advantage of organic shapes and randomly generated corridors in a way I haven't seen done before.
The structure of the game is similar to an infinite runner. The game is set in what is seemingly an infinite corridor, slowly scrolling down to reveal more of the level up top. In this randomly generated corridor are falling magenta cubes to collect, and red spiked objects to avoid. Since the player character remains static when you're not controlling it, you also have to make sure to keep moving, otherwise you'll be lost at the bottom of the level and face a game over.
You control the game's player character with the mouse's left click button, which causes you to leap, as you might imagine, from side to side. The constraint here is that you don't get to control the direction you move in - you'll move, first, as far right as possible, then automatically as far left as possible, and back and forth with no ability to change the direction at will.
What does change, though, are the amount of lanes there are to occupy. You might get a particularly narrow corridor generated that only has two invisible lanes, which then opens up to a broader corridor with four invisible lanes.
It might be hard to visualize, but this dynamic level design adds an organic feel to the typically linear autorunner format. What also stands out is the way audio - including the beat in the background, and sound effects from your movement and object collection - merge together to create an equally dynamic soundtrack, making Side by Side somewhat of a rhythm game as well.
