Halloween party ideas 2015

Blades of Gory is kind of what one might imagine would happen if hyper-violent fighting games had risen to popularity in the time of the NES.

A handful of medieval-era warriors are all out to cut each other up for reasons I don’t know. Maybe they’re mad about the frequency with which people are getting their heads cut off in the realm of Brutalia. Maybe everyone is just really bitter about the clear lack of available clothing there. I’m not sure why, but a bunch of fighters have problems with each other, and they intend to cut off limbs to solve them.

Each of the game’s fighters has a handful of attacks and work at varied ranges, so you’ll need to play around with distance to win. There’s also a handful of taunts for those who are either really good at the game or those who like to accidentally get themselves killed by taunting when you should be attacking. Beyond the game;s handful of fighters, there are also huge knights, dragons, and death itself as bosses to make your life messier.

Victory or defeat comes with some missing limbs, as Blades of Gory revels in cutting off 8-bit heads. Something unpleasant will happen to someone at the end of each match, so expect a lot of red pixels flying around as you play. And half-nude NES-era folks, because if you’re going to get into a sword fight, you should definitely do it while mostly naked.

Blades of Gory is available now on Steam.
