Kwaidan ~Azuma manor story~ challenges you to solve the puzzles and pitfalls of a mysterious home, all while dealing with spooky monsters in 1930’s Japan.
People need help, monsters (known as Yoki) are prowling about, and you need to figure out how setting a clock’s time is going to help you progress. The game aims to be a tense mixture of action and puzzle solving, having you face down mythical monstrosities while trying to figure out the bizarre machines that keep you from moving through this ancient manor.
You seem to have access to a bunch of tools for fighting monsters, from your handy spear to magical items that will blast the Yoki from your path. These might not be quite as effective against the big bosses of the game, though. And when not fighting, you can switch between a handful of viewpoints to play the game more like a point&click adventure, finding clues and figuring out how odd mechanisms work. It aims to work your brain and fighting arm.
Kwaidan ~Azuma manor story~ reminds me of games like Kuon, where you’ll be doing more action-based battles against scary monsters rather than tense, slower affairs. As such, it feels like it’s drawing from some fun games that explore horror in their own way, resulting in experiences that can be as thrilling as they are unsettling. I do love me some PS2 action games as well, and this title is definitely giving me those vibes.
Kwaidan ~Azuma manor story~ is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
