Witch Beam's Assault Android Cactus is currently in early access, but will launch into official release status on September 23, 2015. The game is a twin-stick shooter designed to be frantic and encourage the players to get out into the fray instead of turtling in a corner through use of an energy mechanic rather than a life mechanic.
At the top of the screen is a battery indicator that slowly drains, which means the player must move around to pick up the recharge powerups dropped by enemies. Running out of power takes the player out of action temporarily, but they can get back up and carry on. This puts Assault Android Cactus in the "low floor, high ceiling" category of games designed to be played and appreciated by all but mastered only by the best.
The new trailer shows off some gameplay, including the co-op multiplayer, but focuses more on the playable characters. Some are locked at the beginning of the game and unlocked through progression.
Assault Android Cactus is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux for $14.99. There is no indication that the price will rise upon official launch.
