Pocket Forest will have you matching forest tiles in order to unlock cute, pet-able woodland creatures for you to fawn over.
Sometimes, cute mobile games catch my eye. I really like adorable games and games described as cute. Pocket Forest is one of these types of games, one that looks very cute but at the same time, has a lot going on under the very cute surface.
Pocket Forest is simple in concept. There is a grid of tiles that look much like a forest, with each tile having grass, dirt, water, bushes, or foxes. You can move rows of tiles in this grid either up or down to make matches of three. Each time you move a row of tiles, a move will be taken from your move counter. This counter is limited, so your movements really do matter and must be taken into consideration. You’re looking to get the highest score possible, so moves need to very much matter.
What doesn’t count as moves is connecting tiles of three or more. If you do that, you can tap one of the tiles to watch them form together into a newly-created tile. This tile is normally an ‘upgrade’ of sorts to whatever was used to make it. Grass forms trees, foxes couple up and make babies, water forms bigger drops. These different tiles can sometimes affect the tiles around them — bushes feeding the foxes near them for extra points, water adding liquid to the ground tiles near them to help grass grow. These changes can allow more combos without taking some of your precious moves.
Power-ups are also present in the game, however, during the time I had to play Pocket Forest at Casual Connect, I was unable to really explore these.
Once you inevitable run out of moves, you are presented with an egg. If you have done well enough, the egg can be opened to reveal a forest animal. Some animals are more rare than others, and each time you get an animal you can pet it. These animals are then added to your collection. Pocket Forest is very cute and I love that aspect of it.
Pocket Forest has no set release date at this time, but in the meantime, you can find information about the game on the developer’s website.
