Play Dog Play Tag has pups taking their owners for a walk. And using their owners as projectiles to blow up buildings. So they can collect bones. It’s wild multiplayer, I tells ya.
You and up to three other various dogs will be taking your owners on a leisurely stroll, taking the ragdoll people on a dash through town to collect bones in this silly multiplayer title. A thief seems to be stealing all of the bones in the vicinity, so you’ll need to clobber this oversized raccoon in order to retrieve your tasty treats. Luckily, your owner can be charged up and launched like a missile at this character, knocking them for a loop and making them drop those precious bones.
Trouble is, all of those other doggies are looking to collect the most bones, so you’ve got a bit of a competition on your hands. You can launch your owner at the other dogs to make them drop some of their bone horde, encouraging you all to knock your friends around and collect their goodies. They’ll be doing this right back to you, resulting in a chaotic race to smash dogs with hurled humans as you collect bones and keep trying to make that thief drop more.
It’s a silly concept to begin with, but the destructive power of your owner (which blasts whole buildings into chunks) and the silly effects of watching these hapless people get dragged around adds a ton of humor to the game. Plus, it’s just plain hilarious to throw people who explode. That the game adds a lot of goofy power-ups that change things up even further (adding fireballs, turning the ground into slippery ice) makes for a truly delightful multiplayer game.
Play Dog Play Tag is the kind of multiplayer game that will have everyone dying of laughter (as we were while playing it at BitSummit 7 Spirits), and you’ll definitely want it the next time your pals come around. It was endlessly funny with its premise, physics, and frantic play, but still had enough depth with its power-ups, the need to charge your attacks, and its moving source of bones to make for a compelling multiplayer game. It was excellent stuff, and made for a great time at BitSummit.
