Salad Fields is a puzzling place where things act in strange (sometimes explosive) ways. Luckily, you’ve got four magic furry boyfriends to loan you some handy powers.
Salad Fields casts you out into a surreal dimension of nonstop puzzle problems. In each of its chapters, you’ll be given a unique power (from the aforementioned furry loves) that will help you do something nifty with one of the objects in the area. You might be able to make pumplins explode, or you might be dealing with amoebas copying themselves. Maybe skulls will roam around. All of these things need to be used in smart ways to get through the game’s confounding environments.

While puzzles are a big part of the game, getting to know the oddball inhabitants of this world makes your time there much more enjoyable. I mean, Yippie is a “gay leather-mouse who bakes doughnuts using vegetables.” There’s an ampersand who is also a butler who also hates doing butler things. A computer that’s scared of Y2K. I want to know all of them.
Salad Fields was also made by the developer behind the delightfully-unpredictable Mibibli’s Quest, so expect what I’ve described to just be a hint at the surreal things to come. I’m not saying you’ll have to dance to solve some of its puzzles, but things will definitely head in some intriguing directions before the game is done. At the very least, I’d want to know how Yippie is making doughnuts out of veggies.
Salad Fields is available now on Steam Early Access.
