Please, Touch the Artwork is a three part puzzle game with three different modes, depending on the exact type of art you select.
These three different puzzles have the goal of being educational, but at the current state, the game itself works more like a puzzle game then something that can be learned from.
The first puzzle, called The Style, features one of those block colored paintings. It has you trying to paint a matching painting. The only issue is, you cannot select colors and paint doesn’t go where you click. Instead, the painting cycles down a list of four colors, and you must paint that color to move to the next. Whatever space you click on will stay the color it currently is, while the ones around it will be filled in.
The next painting, called Boogie Woogie, comes with a story of two blocks; one an outline while the other is a smaller square that can fit inside the larger one perfectly. These two squares want to come together, forming a bit of color, but can only do so by traveling across black lines. Once you send the little square across the line, it keeps going until it hits the outline or a side. This becomes more challenging as lines start to cross, making secret paths through the middle which change depending on what side the square travels in by. This forces you to do some trial and error to make it work.
The final painting, called The Red Tree, doesn’t have a goal in mind. Instead, it gives you a prompt to draw on a blank canvas. These prompts are simple – draw a mouse, lightbulb, circle, etc, using just one line. Once you stop clicking on the game, the painting builds your drawing into a strange tree form, which you can look at before clicking for a new prompt.
All of these paintings are fun to play around with and provide some challenging puzzles. I quite enjoyed my time with Please, Touch the Artwork and hope that in the future it has something to teach me as well.
Please, Touch the Artwork is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the developer’s site.
