Halloween party ideas 2015

fabulousescape.jpg Here are five games from the most recent Ludum Dare, the theme of which is Entire Game on One Screen. Not all of these fit the theme well, though. We have a murder mystery set in space, a platformer that does something interesting with the theme, a ballet-themed arcade game, a piano racing game, and a small survival sandbox.

Atticus VII

atticusvii.jpg An intriguing murder mystery in space. You are the ship's AI system, recently rebooted with some data missing and tasked with figuring out who killed one of the crew members. You only have 10 days, and it's not easy to figure out. The team members include folks who worked on Gods Will Be Watching, Nihilumbra, and Super Rocket Shootout.

Fabulous Escape

fabulousescape2.jpg Fabulous Escape is a platformer about a girl who escapes the police in an interesting way. It has exploration, jumping, and a computer with special capabilities that save the day.

The Paper Dance

Windows, Mac, Linux, Web (Unity)

paperdance.jpg A paper ballerina dances on a paper stage, picking up paper flowers. More ballerinas join her, helping. Then shadowy ballerinas show up and they aren't helping. The goal is to collect as many flowers as possible within the time limit. The game runs a little long, but it is lovely. It's a shame that it has no music.

Piano Racer

pianoracer.png You are racing down a track playing a piano. It's like Mario Kart except that you can only see the section of track you're currently on. The track order doesn't seem to change, so it can be memorized, and the controls are tight. The silliness of it helps.

Solitude

solitude.jpg A single-screen survival sandbox. The developers wanted to try to cram as much capability as possible into the one game scene, and they did a good job. My only complaint is that the resolution is set in stone and quite small on a high-resolution monitor.
