Halloween party ideas 2015

derp.gifMy recent trailer roundups have been mostly dry of action, and although this one still has its fair share of slower-paced and thought-focused games, it also has some fast-paced and action-packed ones.

Cubotrox
Windows | $TBD | Late 2016

From Spanish developer Jose Barberà Pastor: "The game's goal is to fill that background picture, so you can pick and drop the falling cubes, rotate them, even rotate the full board.... There are some pressure elements for the player: limited movements, time, frequency falling... so the difficulty grade is increased at each higher level."

Epistory
Windows, OS X, Linux | reg. $15 | Available now

I first tried the early access version of this game as an IGF judge, and it ended up being one of my favorite submissions. Educational games are a soft spot of mine, and Epistory takes typing and uses it in an adventure game. Words and storytelling are a key part of the experience, and although dealing with enemies involves the kind of rapid-fire typing common to typing games, the player spends at least as much time exploring the world and narrative with their keyboard as they do fending off baddies.

Flat Kingdom
Windows, OS X | $9 | April 4, 2016

From Mexican developer Fat Panda Games: "Jump into the story of a fantasy world completely bi-dimensional, ruled by King Square and threatened by the theft of the Magical Jewels that keep the balance and harmony between the dimensions. This terrible robbery is the reason why the Flat Kingdom is shattering and becoming 3D, so the survival of its native paper-like inhabitants is being seriously threatened. But luckily King Square soon found the only one able to stop the heinous thief and recover the Jewels."

Future Unfolding
Windows, OS X, Linux, PS4 | $TBA | Release TBA

From German developer Spaces of Play: "Future Unfolding lets you explore a world filled with life, both beautiful and dangerous. The world is procedurally generated, and each play-through allows you to experience a new and different layout. Observe and interact with the wildlife to get clues and discover patterns in this mystical place. Use the patterns to locate hidden secrets and find your way to the goal. Find your path with the help of wild animals, while avoiding the other less friendly creatures."

Intergalactic Road Warriors
Windows, OS X, Linux | $9 | Early Access now

From developer TurtleBlaze: "Intergalactic Road Warriors is a side-scrolling combat racing game set in outer space. You've been invited to compete in this violent grand prix. Eviscerate opponents with glorious explosions, send them off into wormholes or copter your way overhead in a battle royale to the finish line!"

StarBreak
Windows, OS X, Linux | $TBA | May 3, 2016 | Demo (Web)

This game is to be an action platformer MMO, and it looks like the action gets crazy. Good thing you'll be able to team up with other players to fight things off.

Super Arc Light
iOS, Android | $1 | Available now

This game is billed as Super Hexagon meets Geometry Wars.

Walpurgis Night
iOS, Android | $3 | April 8, 2016

From developer mojibake: "The game is endless with a constant stream of fireworks shooting off different bullet hell patterns based on the selected difficulty. Collecting the exhausted firework as it falls will grant you escalating time bonuses to speed things up, and every minute or so a gigantic firework goes off that fills the screen with bullety goodness. As you hit 1, 2, and 3 minute milestones you gain a star with which you unlock extra levels. That's kind of it in a nutshell. It's also pretty hard."

Wyrmsun
Windows, Linux | Free (Aesthetic DLC) | Available now

This free RTS is designed to be a modernized take on old-school RTS games.
