Halloween party ideas 2015

7048-shot0-1460892723.gif-eq-900-500.gifAnother Ludum Dare has come, and with it the rating period for over 2,700 games. This time around, the theme was Shapeshift. Some entrants took that more literally than others, but there are a lot of good entries at both ends of the spectrum.

90107-shot2-1460926995.png-eq-900-500.jpgChange shape to match the enemies flying around and bump into them -- but make sure you're hitting them in one of their sides with one of your vertices, not the other way around.

Ghost Bird

5839-shot2-1460943049.png-eq-900-500.pngThis exploratory platformer is fun, but really stands out because of its graphics. Only things in the player's immediate surroundings are fully put together. At greater distances, the tiles pull apart and then become triangles before fading into solid color. It's a beautiful effect.

Infinite Shifter
Web, Windows | 48-hour Compo | by Martins

7048-shot2-1460892635.png-eq-900-500.jpgInfinite Shifter is an unusual incremental game. The player has two purchase options, a random new emitter, which effect the shapes that fall into view, and random new modifiers which can be placed anywhere on the screen and change the properties of any shapes that fall through them. Some shapes are worth negative money and some colors are worth more than others, which makes the game a constant, yet relaxed, juggling act.

polyAgonY
Python | 48-hour Compo | by raffitz

1440-shot1-1460940974.png-eq-900-500.pngNot everyone will be able to play this because there are no compiled versions of it; one must have Python installed. However, in spite of a couple of flaws regarding color and the tiny size of the non-player shapes, this is one of my favorite entries so far. The player must move through a space filled with tiny polygons, shifting shape to match whatever they crash into or take damage. Health can be restored if both shape and color match.

Robot Snake
Web, Windows | 72-hour Jam | by TreeCastle

91720-shot3-1461031581.png-eq-900-500.jpgThis one is a puzzle platformer in which the player is a robot snake with a maximum length. To move, the player must stretch out and attach to a free bit of wall, floor, or ceiling before stretching out again.

Rude Bear Requiem
Windows | 72-hour Jam | by Alex Rose, Sonny Bone, and Atmospherium

19499-shot2-1461060395.png-eq-900-500.jpgThe newest entry in the Rude Bear series is quite lovely. Rude Bear is given a quest to obtain cake, a gift, and a flower. What will happen when he succeeds?

Scientist Clicker
Windows, Linux | 72-hour Jam | by kariamoss + 4 others

87916-shot2-1461078251.PNG-eq-900-500.jpgA fun incremental game themed around doing science... until you decide to blow up your lab and reset everything so you can do the same science, only faster. Unlike Infinite Shifter, this is a pretty standard incremental game, but it's well polished.

Windowframe
Windows | 48-hour Compo | by Daniel Linssen

3479-shot0-1461119012.gif-eq-900-500.gifI'm trying to find more hidden gems amongst all the offerings of Ludum Dare so I can broaden the scope of the coverage it sees. Daniel Linssen has won Ludum Dare and other jams often enough that people flock to play his jam games, so I had planned to avoid including him in my roundups this time around. However, when he makes stuff as cool as Windowframe, I'm not left with much choice. Go play it, if you haven't already.

You're a Floor Lamp Now
Web | 48-hour Compo | by blinry

64665-shot2-1460933316.png-eq-900-500.jpgThis is easily one of the silliest entries I've come across. You've been transformed into a floor lamp and can now only move around and turn yourself on and off. Help a mouse get his dinner. Figuring out how to do it is part of the challenge, but if you get stuck, the game will offer to tell you how to proceed.
