In cyberpunk games, we usually play as the special agent/hacker/hero fighting against the all-powerful corporations and forces controlling the future, uncovering their conspiracies and exposing their schemes. But in Spinnortality, currently on Kickstarter, your role is reversed. You're in control of a massive global megacorp, able to manipulate nations and populations, to control the media and maybe even take over the world itself.
As an evil megacorp, you have a lot of plates to keep spinning: public opinion, employee morale, laws and regulations, profits and marketing, and so on. On the surface, your company needs to keep afloat and sell technology, but how you accomplish those goals are not so mundane. Using your arsenal of connections, hackers, black ops divisions, and workers, you can carefully monitor the world's nations and decide how to best spin each new technology to suit that country's values. New social media network that gives you access to everyone's data? Look for a country where the popular values public image over privacy and spin your launch as a new way to stay up to date and connected. Gene splicing research that will let you eventually modify minds and control employees? Best launched in a country that prefers novel ideas and described as a way to truly express yourself.
As you expand into artificial intelligence, retinal cameras, emotion-modifying drugs, and other less humane tech, your power grows as well; more risks and more behind-the-scenes manipulation lets you expand and assert your control as a megacorp. Maybe play a role in inciting a civil war and letting a country collapse, and you can be the benefactor in control of said country when you help it rise from the ashes. It's much easier to sell your illegal technology when you can decide a country's laws and don't have to bribe their government.
Rival corporations threaten your rise, but sabotage and assassinations can deal with that problem; the real threat is your CEO's impending death as the months and years pass with each turn. Thankfully, with enough funds and research, you might find a way to transfer your consciousness and transcend death, so even death isn't an obstacle in your megacorp's plans for global control and expansion.
Spinnortality is currently on Kickstarter, with a goal of €10,000; you can find a preview build on itch.io and learn more about the game on the developer's site.
