‘BAYANI – Fighting Game’ Casts Filipino Historical Figures as its Combatants - [INDIEGAMING]

BAYANI – Fighting Game is filled with historical inspirations, taking famous figures from the Philippines and having them duke it out in one-on-one matches.

National heroes, revolutionary figures, generals, healers, and the first president of the Philippines are given the fighting game treatment, turned into cartoon-styled warriors for you to pit against one another. You can learn a little bit about the country’s history by looking into these characters (the game’s site gives a great rundown on their inspirations), although some liberties may have been taken for the story and play (not real sure how much lasers factored into these important moments).

History isn’t all the game has going for it (although it even uses real-world locales that are important to the historical figures to add yet another neat layer), as it offers some sharp six-button combat that aims to be simple to pick up and have fun with. Naturally, things can get much more complicated if you want to start stringing combos together and playing against skilled players, although you won’t be doing that online just yet. Still, if you want to pick on one of your friends at home in local one-on-one, or just beat up on the AI, you’re welcome to do both in this Early Access version.

The Early Access version will start you off with four characters, with future updates bringing in the rest of the combatants as they’re developed and tested. Your history lesson will have to be in parts, I guess.
