Zombie Rollerz will have you adapting your abilities with the silver ball to more survival-based use, having you clobber undead using pinballs and activating traps like you would bumpers for bonus points.
At first, Zombie Rollerz looks like a normal turn-based, hexagon tile-based game where you move around the map and fight zombies. The map itself has more than just zombies within it – there are merchants, houses, and tiles with goo on them that can hurt you. Traveling around the map can give you more coins and items to use in battle, as well as harm your health if you go to the wrong spot. This health is then the health you use when facing off against zombies.
When you do hit a zombie tile, the entire game changes. Zombie Rollerz becomes a giant, action-packed pinball machine. You are controlling a wooden version of the inner workings within the machine. Launching the ball out from a big bow and arrow, you must then use the paddles to keep bashing your ball towards the enemies that spawn in.
Much like any pinball machine, there are various other triggers that can be popped and hit. Some allow power-up crates to appear, while others force forward traps. These traps are things like spinning axes and spikes that work for a limited time before going dormant again.
Zombies do make their way towards your main station, but you can use your paddles to whack them back. Using your paddles does cost you health, but it’s far better than the zombies going inside your machine. You’ll also lose health if the ball enters the machine.
Zombie Rollerz takes pinball and adds a very neat twist to it, creating a game like none that I have ever seen before. I really enjoyed the time I got to play this unique game at Casual Connect. I’ve not enjoyed pinball this much in ages.
Zombie Rollerz is set to release in November 2019, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
