Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure finds a librarian, a detective, and a cat that’s been turned into a cosmic abomination all working together to undo the feline’s unfortunate curse.
Darkham’s not the most hospitable place on a good day, but lately, it’s been overrun with odd cults all looking for the Necronomicon. Detective Don R. Ketype is also on the lookout for the tome, finding it in the possession of librarian Buzz Kerwan. Makes sense, right? However, the librarian may have accidentally used the book on his cat, Kitteh, transforming it into a sassy, talking abomination of its former self. And the three of you need to fix it before your feelings get too hurt by the cat’s cutting dialogue. Oh yeah, and horrors and the like need to be dealt with, too.
Gibbous gives you free reign over Darkham, having you chat with the various locals as you put together the elements you need to get your cat back to normal. Naturally, you’ll need an array of goofy items to solve goofier puzzles, doing so to help these silly townsfolk with their problems. Seeming to be inspired by other humorous adventure games in look and tone, you can expect to deal with some bizarre situations before you can get things all back to normal.
A funny game with a dark overarching story, Gibbous aims to find laughter despite the bleak arrival of some unpleasant cosmic beings. That it does so with a lovely animated art style only adds to that appealing conflict between its lighthearted nature and some of the grim things that are to come.
Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure is available now on Steam and GOG.
