Halloween party ideas 2015

Spooky clowns give us a hard time on this week’s IGP First Look, dogging us all throughout what would otherwise be a lovely carnival in Death Park.

While you might awaken in your super hip bedroom filled with cool guy posters, things are definitely amiss. For starters, your bedroom door leads out into an abandoned park. Secondly, that park is being patrolled by a clown who means to shake the daylights out of you. Or strangle you. I’m not super sure, but you can only have it done to you five times before you give up and pass on to the next life. No one likes to be shaken by a clown.

Somewhat like Slender, you’re exploring a large environment while looking for items. You’re not just searching for pieces of paper, but rather items that will let you deal with troubling mechanisms that get in your way. As you find tools to cross bridges or secret codes to unlock gates, you’ll move deeper into the park, hopefully figuring out who moved your bedroom there.

However, an irate clown is following you the whole time. You can tell when the jolly fellow is around by listening to your heartbeat, as it grows louder the closer he gets. If you get snagged, you get roughed up and sent back to bed without supper. You can save if you;re doing particularly well in avoiding the clown, but you can only save five times throughout the whole game. You’re probably better off getting good at dodging him.

Death Park wasn’t particularly tense in its first few minutes thanks to the clown being a bit too goofy a monster, and the main area feeling too well-lit to create tension. The next area offers more tight hallways and feels a bit more frightening as the clown is always close behind, so while it had a weak start, the game definitely shows promise for those who find clowns just a bit creepy.

Death Park is available now on Steam.
