A ship heading for the Eastern Colonies, a diverse group of passengers and crew, and boiling tensions and mysteries to uncover are coalesce in Wispfire's Herald. This 19th century drama has ambitions to explore themes such as colonialism, race, class and religion, through the perspective of steward Devan Rensburg on the titular ship's eastward journey.
Devan's job brings him in contact with all of the ship's inhabitants, from captain and wealthy ladies to the poor and disenfranchised passengers. As you move through the ship assisting people, you'll hear their stories, help them with their problems, and discover their secrets. Wispfire describes Herald as a mix of visual novel and adventure game, so dialogue and choosing your words carefully will be your main way of interacting with characters, letting you shape the narrative through your choices.
Herald's historical setting is a fascinating one, set towards the end of the Age of Sail, This era lets the game and player explore the effects of colonialism through the plights and struggles of the ship's passengers, issues and stories inspired by first-hand accounts and the developer's research.
Herald will be releasing on PC, Mac, and Linux. You can find more screenshots and details on the game's site.
