Derelict space ships drift through the abyss, valuable alien technology and clues to the legendary Cryptark lurking within. But derelict doesn't mean empty, and you'll have to brave a relentless array of security systems and drones to gain that precious knowledge.
Cryptark is a roguelike shooter from Alientrap, the developers of Apotheon and Capsized, and puts you behind the controls of armed-to-the-teeth mechs designed to battle their way through those dangerous vessels.
Hidden knowledge awaits within procedurally-generated spaceships, guarded by roaming hordes of alien entities and by the ships themselves. Each ship is equipped with internal defenses, from shield generators and repair systems that fix other destroyed defense to turrets and map jammers, all controlled by a central brain. Powerful mechanical organisms protect those defense - massive sawblades, armored Juggernauts, pack-hunting Vipers, among many others - but your mech is more than capable of matching their overwhelming firepower and numbers with weaponry of your own.
Mechs can carry four weapons, four items, and special equipment that grants buffs, allowing for incredibly varied loadouts. Do you prefer the smart machine guns that can fire around corners or the corrosive slime mortars? EMP shotguns and lightning guns, or precision lasers and flamethrowers? Shields and close-range melee weapons? A precise stealthy warrior can choose cloaking and high-powered sniper rifles, but players opting for an unstoppable tank approach can even dual and quad-wield weapons. Different mech types even come with unique abilities such as teleport-dashing and slow motion to grant even more variability in playstyle.
Cryptark is currently on Early Access, but nearing its full release. You can purchase the game for $14.99 on PC, Mac, Linux from Steam and Humble Bundle.
