Hidden object games are a dime a dozen, and it certainly takes something extra special to stick out of the crowd. In the case of Under Leaves, that something extra is a friendly journey through the animal kingdom, beautifully rendered in watercolor illustrations.
The game is as straightforward as it gets: in each of the game's 21 levels, you're tasked with finding small doodads hidden in plain sight. Most of these aren't too hard to find, but especially the ones blending a bit into the background had me repeatedly scanning the screen while scratching my head.
If you're stuck, Under Leaves makes you solve a small sliding puzzle in exchange for hints. Still, it only takes you roughly an hour or two until you have seen everything the game has to offer. However, this is as relaxing as it gets. I really dig the ambient sounds, the unobtrusive sprinkles of music, and the gorgeous watercolor presentation. It really feels like an interactive children's book.
(Bit of a caveat: I tried the game on two differently-sized screens and I felt that it was better suited to the bigger display. I honestly cannot imagine playing this on a tiny mobile phone. Also, and this should be pretty obvious, this game is unplayable if you're afflicted with any kind of color-blindness.)
