2014's Halfway was a sci-fi strategy game in the vein of XCOM, brought to life with intricate pixel art and a streamlined UI. Now, developer Robotality is leaving the infested corridors and space marines behind, and transporting its brand of tactical action to the era of dashing heroes, mysterious ruins, and globetrotting adventure with their upcoming Pathway.

Set in the 1930s, Pathway follows the exploits of artifact recovery specialists Lankford & Co, as you race against Germans forces to uncover the secrets of a long-forgotten civilization and keep powerful relics out of nefarious hands. From your headquarters, you assemble a ragtag team of fellow adventurers, manage their perks, and learn their backstories before setting out on turn-based missions in procedurally-generated locations ranging from derelict tombs to German strongholds.

Robotality describes the game as a tactical RPG, building on the strategic foundations of Halfway and evolving the gameplay in compelling new ways. Perhaps the most interesting change is the elimination of hit-chances, opting instead for a system where every attack is guaranteed but variables such as cover determine the effectiveness.

Pathway is expected to release in 2017, on PC, Mac, and Linux. You can find more details on the game's site, as well as on Robotality's Twitter and Facebook pages.
