You’ve got limited means to communicate, some complex puzzles to solve with the help of a partner, and multiple, myriad horrible deaths to endure if you fail in this horror VR title.
Last Labyrinth finds you tied down to the point where you can only move your head. This kind of makes it hard for you to do much puzzle solving in the gloomy mansion you find yourself trapped inside, but luckily, a young woman is there to help you. All you have to do is move your head around (which points a laser pointer at what you;d like her to interact with) and then nod or shake your head to let her know what you want her to do. Easy, right?
With so many complex mechanisms to use in this deadly house, and so many incorrect answers you could give while trying to figure out how they work, you will easily, and often, set off a lethal trap. Getting crushed or cut to pieces by moving saws is normally a bit of an unsettling end in a game, but enduring it in VR is something else entirely. Watching a trap come rolling your way as you’re trapped and powerless to stop it makes for some disturbing moments that just might leave your heart racing.
Last Labyrinth is quite chilling throughout as you work to understand the workings of this horrible place, but it’s in those moments while you watch death barreling toward you that the game strikes hardest, making for a memorable, if terrifying, experience.
Last Labyrinth is available now on PSVR, Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, and Steam (HTC Vive).
